Although I have been creating art since I was a tiny child, I became involved with metalworking when I attended the University of Georgia. I thoroughly enjoyed every art class I had taken; however, it was my love of hammers and torches that kept me in the jewelry and metalwolrking field. Working three-dimensionally with metal came much easier to me than anything else and my practical nature was drawn to the functionality and display of jewelry. I am inspired by the ability of the body to be a walking art gallery for all to see. Much of the enjoyment I receive as an artist comes from knowing the people that wear my jewelry feel more beautiful and may be the recipients of many compliments. It delights me that joy and beauty are shared with so many people I will never actually meet.
When creating any piece of jewelry I often look to nature and the world around me. The nature of the metal in itself is an inspiration. Fusing has become my focus in a lot of my work. I'm fascinated by what heat and metal can do together with just a little control of my hand. My aim is to work intuitively and to look for new ways that metal enjoys being manipulated. Any day spent with a torch and a hammer is a good day for me. |
